Medical Director
POSITION: Medical Director
LOCATION: Evansville, Indiana
DEPARTMENT: Vanderburgh County Health Department
STATUS: Part-time
SALARY: TBD
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Health Officer; works closely with the Health Administrator and departmental leadership
1. Clinical and Program Leadership
- Provide day-to-day medical leadership across departmental programs and services.
- Supervise and support clinical services delivered by the Department and its partners.
- Ensure programs operate in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff and division leaders.
2. Departmental Operations and Improvement
- Work collaboratively with division directors to strengthen and improve existing programs.
- Evaluate departmental programs using key performance indicators and recommend improvements, prioritization, or expansion.
- Support implementation of the Department’s strategic plan through operational execution.
- Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
3. Policy Implementation and Technical Expertise
- Provide medical and scientific input into policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Assist with development and review of public health initiatives, emergency preparedness, and response activities.
- Stay current on emerging public health trends, clinical guidelines, and regulatory changes.
4. Internal Collaboration and Communication
- Maintain close working relationships with the Health Officer and Health Administrator.
- Provide regular updates on program performance, operational challenges, and resource needs.
- Participate in internal leadership meetings and planning efforts.
- One of the following with an active, unrestricted Indiana license:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Physician Assistant (PA)
- Clinical experience in healthcare, public health, or population health settings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex programs.
- Strong problem-solving and operational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Experience working in public health, government, or community-based health programs.
- Familiarity with quality improvement, performance management, or population health initiatives.
